Paul Simon and Left Frizzell walk in to a bar. Bartender says you two should pretend you're both young Leonard Cohen and make a record together. Paul says why don't you? Lefty says yeah why don't you. I am that bartender pretending to be Paul and Lefty pretending to be two Leonards. This is the record I made.

Hard Road
03:04
|
|||
There’s a road we all come to learn
Leading to our old dream home
But it’s a slow machine that’ll turn to gravel
Pieces of the hills we roam
And you will walk the long road alone
Farther than your steps could show
But it’s enough to see how far you’ve traveled
Wading through a river of stone
You can walk away from the ground you grow on
And wander like a railroad track
But its a hard road and you know it’s something
Something you can never take back
And you will walk the long road alone
A rebel till your heart beats slow
But when it calms the sea for moss to gather
On the ripples and the stone you toss
There’s a road we’re all born to cross,
Return into the hills we roam
And you would not believe the world that’s waiting
Waiting just to carry you home
You can walk away from the ground you grow on
And wander like a railroad track
But its a hard road and you know it’s something
Something you can never take back

Saw you dancin’ and I saw you see me
Feelin’ it was so nice to be seen
If the movement would go right I’d step out on a limb
And that’s when I saw you were dancin’ with him
You were dancing’ while the old records sang out for more
From the neon sign, the jukebox, to the bar
O how quickly you turn and how far you travel!
The only distance I travel, is from the bottle to the floor
Remember when we were together
One sight of your eyes could make me sing
And I seen the same light shine back at him
And that’s when knew you were in love again
ou were dancing’ while the old records sang out for more
From the neon sign, the jukebox, to the bar
O how quickly you turn and how far you travel!
The only distance I travel, is from the bottle to the floor

One Horse Pony
03:55
|

Lookin around for something easy to catch
I was looking for work or something easy to sell
Watching frost he bottom it was easy to see
If you’d pay for what you’d rather steal
Fishing line’s broken down deep in the reel
Separating me form every coin in the well
Throw a million dollars out and nothing ‘ould stick
Slappin’ at the wall lookin’ for a switch
But I don’t feel nothin’ at all
Cause I’m a one horse pony in a two-bit town
Got a race track saddle but I take my time
I bet my nome on it that carrot comes back around
And you’re a pine needle in haystack
Scattered on the blacktop blowing’ down the highway
I hear you belly laughing’ why put off till tomorrow
What you can just not do at all
Cherry bomb’s lit and you’re lookin’ at me
like a hammer calls a sickle red
Waiting’ for a second that could send us to bed
But could barely move a cannon ball
Staring’ down the barrel of an old 35”
The picture was clear all except for your eyes
Going to a party with nobody to meet
We can turn it around into the night of our lives
And leave without sayin’ goodbye
Cause I’m a one horse pony in a two-bit town
Got a race track saddle but I take my time
I bet my nome on it that carrot comes back around
And you’re a pine needle in haystack
Scattered on the blacktop blowing’ down the highway
I hear you belly laughing’ why put off till tomorrow
What you can just not do at all
Pullin’ the vines that were hangin’ too tall
They were shakin’ my hand they were cursin’ at me
Fightin’ with my body all they took was a knee
Just when they were learning to crawl
It doesn’t add up but if it must come down
You could polish your shoes or you could die on your feet
Or rollin in the meadow feels good to be free
From the weight of the world on the end of your line
Or two nickels ain’t worth a dime
Cause I’m a one horse pony in a two-bit town
Got a race track saddle but I take my time
I bet my nome on it that carrot comes back around
And you’re a pine needle in haystack
Scattered on the blacktop blowing’ down the highway
I hear you belly laughing’ why put off till tomorrow
What you can just not do at all

The Color of Water
03:28
|
|||
Lifting the pace I keep to keep warm
Deafend by thunder I weathered the haze
And I walked from the top of the hill
To the city below along the river a ways
Along with he wind my memory strays
This fountain of youth has seen better years
But I drank all it offered it all was
The color of water, the flavor of tears
The weather grew heavier and laid on my chest
Felt like for hours but could’ve been more
Now I’m trying to go with the flow
But I’ve floated down the wrong river before
A river will bend, clouds break from their rows
I’ll curse my good fortune to see if ti stays
Or rewinds them diamond to coal
Picking back up the water ways and up hill to roll

There’s a picture of the Golden Gate Bridge
Two lovers walk by as they’re painting it red
I thought that you’d leave it but I guess you changed your mind
Because our future is all you’re leaving behind
Through the window I can hear the engine run
The yard stacked with boxes you packed one by one
It’s hard to believe it but I guess you took your time
Because our future is all you’re leaving behind
Cardboard and paper and clear plastic tape
Wrapped around the world I built with you
If lonesome confusion is all I can take
To empty pockets, nothing feels right at home
I won’t remember what we had yesterday
After all our possessions have been hauled away
If I look for traces empty space is all I’ll find
Because our future is all you’re leaving behind
Because our future is all you’re leaving behind
