about
I wrote and recorded this in 2012-13 and forgot about the recording until May 2020 while passing quarantine time. It's an attempt at expressing the sadness we feel for the people we've lost and the gratitude for having known them.
lyrics
When I rise I'm eastbound boys I'm gone
Morning come it's time to carry on
Through your eyes I've seen myself as strong
And seen the light that shown where I was wrong
I realize that I have not been known
To wait beside my roots where they have grown
And I ain't surprised but I have found sitting still
Can weigh you down a pound or two until
You count the stars and all the sense it makes
Exhaust your mind with all the math it takes
Addition comes with the right wind, blows in the dust
Subtraction goes, your steel heart turns to rust
And as I lie through the evening pardon the ways
I forget the words and then I'll struggle for days
To recall the tune I knew so long, so well
I can hear you now your voice beneath the spell
You're lookin' up at the ceiling but seein' the truth
Or at least what passes for time we traded for youth
And all your left is a feeling and a smile that will
Lift you up a mile or two until
You count the stars and all the sense it makes
Exhaust your mind with all the math it takes
Subtraction goes, with the right wind, blows out the dust
Addition comes, your steel heart yearns to bust
